I remember a particular Dilbert cartoon from many years ago with staff gathered around the conference table discussing an important part of company strategy. In the final panel, the pointy-haired boss looks at a pen, thinking to himself “how do they get the ink inside these things?”

That same sensibility – or lack thereof – hit me when reading the article below. The company achieved its carbon neutral certification by excluding “scope 3” emissions from the calculation (emissions caused by the use of the final product – crude oil). An analyst with a reputable investment bank praised the announcement.

If you need proof that all industries are jumping on the “ESG” bandwagon, but the true impact of “sustainability” initiatives require a much closer look, here it is. I don’t know what more there is to say.
