NYSE has issued their Best Practices for Sustainability Reporting – a “voluntary set of guidelines for companies; these are not listing standards, regulations or requirements. They are intended to help you make further progress, or even get started, on your ESG journey.”
I highly recommend this document – two thumbs up! It provides practical and concise guidance on what NYSE sees as the eight steps of a company’s ESG journey:
- Identifying the risk approach for the company
- Identifying stakeholders and evaluating engagement
- Assessing materiality
- Establishing governance
- Integrating ESG into business strategy
- Telling your story
- Reporting frameworks and standards
- ESG research and ratings
Further, NYSE is also surveying listed companies on climate disclosures to “inform us on the areas of agreement and divergence within the NYSE-listed company community.” Results of the survey will be made available to listed companies who participate in the survey, but will not be made public.
