Our newest checklist is now available – Identifying & Updating Climate Risks and Uncertainties. Climate risks/uncertainties are significantly more far-reaching and amorphous than typical business exposures. Companies need to look well beyond their operating boundaries and direct business relationships, consider significant planetary and scientific uncertainties, and ultimately assess how (or whether) to prioritize, disclose and/or manage the risks. Potential climate impacts on companies are complex, many times due to interconnectedness of multiple and disparate events, parties, behaviors, reactions and ambiguities. In addition, new developments bring unanticipated and previously unknown risks and chain reactions.
Existing and proposed regulations break down climate risks into two or three categories, such as physical, transition and business risks; however, it is helpful to categorize them with more granularity to stimulate thought and help better identify uncertainties, linkages and contingencies. Our checklist consists of ten categories, with specific potential risks/uncertainties for each.
