I’ve written in the past about Trevor Milton, the former CEO of EV company Nikola who was found guilty of various fraud charges related to representations he made to investors (and the public) about the sustainability attributes and performance of Nikola’s vehicles (including a highly publicized fraudulent video of a supposedly fully functional vehicle that – well, wasn’t). Last week, various media outlets reported that Milton has received a full presidential pardon. Although I have not found the actual pardon on the White House website, The Hill covered it as well as Milton’s tenure at Nikola and the infamous video. They also note
“Milton’s pardon comes just over a month after Nikola, an EV start-up, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. The company lost hundreds of millions over the scandal around Milton.”
It’s off-putting (to say the least) that climate/transition economy fraudsters may feel emboldened by this action that smacks of the current administration’s overt disdain for anything sustainability.
