Put this in the ever-filling bucket of why legal counsel needs to be the CSO’s/sustainability department’s best friend. Zach recently wrote in CCRcorp’s newest blog The AICounsel Blog about why your General Counsel needs to be at the table when companies talk about using AI, including in sustainability applications. He references 25 Key Questions that General Counsels Should be Asking Themselves with Respect to AI from Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP and wraps it up like this:
“Good AI risk management requires transparency and good governance. Organizations should empower GCs to ask hard questions and get straight answers. Understanding the big picture of your organization’s AI use allows GCs to see the entire field of risks and mitigate them. Even seemingly innocuous AI use can present legal risks, so it’s important for GCs to be in the loop on all AI implementation.”
Sustainability professionals may not see AI that is embedded in a growing number of software systems so it may not be obvious, but that doesn’t reduce the risk. At PracticalESG.com, we have strict reviews, oversight of and limitations on our use of AI (don’t worry, it is NEVER used to write or produce content).
