This is my final blog as a full-time editor of PracticalESG.com. I’ve recently felt the pull of getting deep into client issues again, helping solve specific challenges of sustainability in today’s interesting regulatory and business environment. Making this change as the calendar flips felt right.
As sustainability budgets face pressure, the real challenge isn’t compliance – it’s deciding what actually drives business value. This means connecting sustainability initiatives directly to ROI, surfacing defensible business benefits, and deciding which programs should scale, shift, or stop – and how these financial benefits can be formally disclosed to investors, asset managers, regulators and others. I’ve launched Sustainability Value Reporting, LLC to help companies (primarily small- and medium-sized organizations) do just that.
For a bit of late-in-life diversification, I am also pursuing completely different opportunities in metalworking and patenting a unique rifle recoil management system.
As far as PracticalESG.com, you shouldn’t see much change. Zach will be taking the reins although I’ll continue providing content, which may get better as I incorporate lessons from client work.
My tenure here at CCRcorp has been one of intense learning – from the PESG internal startup to understanding much more about US securities law and reporting. I’ve had incredible support from teams and individuals – most notably Liz Dunshee, John Jenkins, Zach Barlow, Dawn Chyten and the Ops team.
Best of luck to everyone and happy holidays. -Lawrence
