Despite lagging global alignment on biodiversity and nature standards, the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) is seeing growth. The framework is similar to the Taskforce on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD), except that the TNFD provides a disclosure framework for nature and biodiversity risks. The TNFD reports substantial growth this year, seeing a record number of commitments across both operating companies and financial institutions:

“On the eve of CBD COP17 in Armenia, 836 organisations from across 57 countries or areas have now publicly committed to corporate reporting aligned to the TNFD’s 14 disclosure recommendations. This represents a 14% increase since COP30 in November 2025 and over USD 26 trillion in AUM among the financial institutions acknowledged as TNFD Adopters, a 19% increase year-on-year. The publicly listed companies now represent over USD 10.5 trillion in market capitalisation, an increase of 12% since COP30.”

The TNFD has continued developing its framework. The standard setter adopted multiple guidance documents and disclosure metrics over the past year. While the ISSB has written off mandatory nature-related disclosures for the time being, investors are showing an appetite for this information. With a record number of commitments and continued growth, the TNFD is a natural foundation for incorporating nature disclosures. If the ISSB revisits the issue in the future, the TNFD will likely play a major role. For the time being, TNFD disclosures offer a great opportunity for investors and companies alike.
